The site name was inspired by a native Italian grape of Umbria, Sagrantino appunto. In soli 670 ettari di produzione nella zona di Montefalco si concentrano quasi 100 produttori di Sagrantino di Montefalco nelle due varianti Sagrantino Passito e Sagrantino Secco. La zona di produzione comprende l'intero territorio amministrativo del comune di Montefalco e parte del territorio dei comuni di Bevagna, Gualdo Cattaneo, Castel Ritaldi e Giano dell'Umbria siti tutti in provincia di Perugia.
Da questo uvaggio si ottiene un vino di grande intensità e concentrazione, di colore viola-nero con un bouquet che spazia dai frutti rossi alla cannella fino alla terra. L'elevato contenuto polifenolico lo rende particolarmente idoneo all'invecchiamento.
Se ne ottengono due vini inconfondibili:
Sagrantino Secco
Sagrantino di Montefalco is a full bodied wine made exclusively from Sagrantino grapes. Thanks to the rich contents of polyphenols and tannins, this wine has an extraordinary longevity. Therefore requires a long period of aging in wood first, then in the bottle.
Sagrantino Passito
The Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG Passito is obtained from the homonymous grapes dried on racks for at least 2 months. Making wine with grape skins and wine you get a very sweet and rich and at the same time aciutto thanks to the large amount of tannins nell'uvaggio.
